The Hunt – Pt. 2

Well this was probably the best weekend of 2009.  I know we are only a couple of weeks into the new year, but I had a blast this weekend.  Both Joshua and John came over to my house Friday afternoon to hang out for a little bit.  Before we hit the road, we pulled into Potbelly’s for dinner.  After we scarfed down our sandwiches, We loaded up and hit the road for the metropolis that is Mexia, TX. (est. population 6,606)  We turned in pretty quickly, because we had to get up at 6 a.m. to meet my brother at the local pastry shop.

Saturday morning, we all climbed out of bed and head down to the Donut Palace to fuel up for the hunt.  We spent most of the morning out in the woods of central Texas, and on the back of four wheelers.  We quickly lost all feeling in our extremities since it was about 35 degrees out that morning, and we had a northern wind blasting us.  Hope was starting to diminish around 10 a.m.  None of the dogs were interested in hunting, and often refused to head into the wood to look for the wild pigs.  From time to time they would just go limp, and fall on the ground like a three year old.  Thankfully, “Bubba” showed up with his dogs, and they were very anxious to head out into the woods.

We were all very cold and hungry, and one of the ATVs was breaking down.  In our weakened state, we all began to contemplate calling it day and chalking this up to the worst hunting experience ever.  But suddenly, We started to hear barking off in the distance and received a phone call informing us that the dog had “bayed” three pigs in a creek.  So we all sprinted to the sound of the dogs howling.  We ended up trapping two pigs, and decided to pack everything up.  We wrapped up the day with all the barbque you can eat for the famous Wright’s Barbque in Mexia, TX, a little Rock Band, and a few beers.  I have some footage from the trip.  Its a little too intense to post up on the web.  But if you’re an avid hunter and can stand the sight of blood, just ask me to send you the link and I’ll pass it along to you!

One week until seminary starts back up.  I’m gonna try to soak it up.

If you’re looking for some new music to listen to, you should definitely pick up these new releases: Fiction Family (Self Titled), Andrew Bird (Noble Beast), or Bon Iver’s EP (Blood Bank).
