This Is War

As we gathered last night to worship, and celebrate the advent of our Lord – I was introduced to a new song by Dustin Kensrue called “This Is War”.  I immediately looked him up this morning and found this music video.  It’s a brilliant Advent song! I hope you enjoy it. (Make sure you turn the HD on too, makes it twice a nice)

Redemption by Johnny Cash

From the hands it came down
From the side it came down
From the feet it came down
And ran to the ground
Between heaven and hell
A teardrop fell
In the deep crimson dew
The tree of life grew

And the blood gave life
To the branches of the tree
And the blood was the price
That set the captives free
And the numbers that came
Through the fire and the flood
Clung to the tree

And were redeemed by the blood
From the tree streamed a light
That started the fight
‘Round the tree grew a vine
On whose fruit I could dine
My old friend Lucifer came
Fought to keep me in chains
But I saw through the tricks
Of six-sixty-six

And the blood gave life
To the branches of the tree
And the blood was the price
That set the captives free
And the numbers that came
Through the fire and the flood
Clung to the tree
And were redeemed by the blood

From his hands it came down
From his side it came down
From his feet it came down
And ran to the ground
And a small inner voice
Said “You do have a choice.”
The vine engrafted me
And I clung to the tree

Censorship is Wack!

I went to Wal-mart today to pickup the new Jay-Z album, The Blueprint Three.  I was stunned to find out that Wal-mart only carries “clean” versions of all CDs in their store.  I found this very interesting and shared this with a few friends.  I got the following response back from one guy–

JP: They also sell handguns, liquor, Playboy’s and countless other things that could be considered more objectionable then adult music lyrics.  Censorship in general is wack.

Censorship FAIL.

Good Mornings

There’s an App for that!

I just discovered an awesome new application for my iPhone last night.  It’s called “AlarmTunes”.  It allows me to set my alarm the night before and select some songs from my personal iTunes library as my alarm sound for the next morning.  You used to need an alarm clock with a  connection for your iPod to enjoy this option.  Now all you need to do is to download the $0.99 application and you’re ready to roll!

So my question to you: If you could wake up each morning to just one song, what song would that be?  This morning I woke up to The Postal Service, instructing me on their plans of “Sleeping In”.  What’s your morning theme song????

What Have We Done

Oh my soul, oh my Jesus
Judas sold you for 30, I’d have done it for less
Oh my soul, oh my Saviour
Peter denied you 3 times, I have denied you more

As the nails when in, I was standing right there
As you breathed your last, I shook my head and I cried

Oh my God what have we done
We have destroyed your son
Oh my God what have we done
We have destroyed your son

And the blood ran down, I was standing right there
And the water poured, I shook my head and I cried

Oh my God what have we done
We have destroyed your son
Oh my God what have we done
We have destroyed your son

The Hunt – Pt. 2

Well this was probably the best weekend of 2009.  I know we are only a couple of weeks into the new year, but I had a blast this weekend.  Both Joshua and John came over to my house Friday afternoon to hang out for a little bit.  Before we hit the road, we pulled into Potbelly’s for dinner.  After we scarfed down our sandwiches, We loaded up and hit the road for the metropolis that is Mexia, TX. (est. population 6,606)  We turned in pretty quickly, because we had to get up at 6 a.m. to meet my brother at the local pastry shop.

Saturday morning, we all climbed out of bed and head down to the Donut Palace to fuel up for the hunt.  We spent most of the morning out in the woods of central Texas, and on the back of four wheelers.  We quickly lost all feeling in our extremities since it was about 35 degrees out that morning, and we had a northern wind blasting us.  Hope was starting to diminish around 10 a.m.  None of the dogs were interested in hunting, and often refused to head into the wood to look for the wild pigs.  From time to time they would just go limp, and fall on the ground like a three year old.  Thankfully, “Bubba” showed up with his dogs, and they were very anxious to head out into the woods.

We were all very cold and hungry, and one of the ATVs was breaking down.  In our weakened state, we all began to contemplate calling it day and chalking this up to the worst hunting experience ever.  But suddenly, We started to hear barking off in the distance and received a phone call informing us that the dog had “bayed” three pigs in a creek.  So we all sprinted to the sound of the dogs howling.  We ended up trapping two pigs, and decided to pack everything up.  We wrapped up the day with all the barbque you can eat for the famous Wright’s Barbque in Mexia, TX, a little Rock Band, and a few beers.  I have some footage from the trip.  Its a little too intense to post up on the web.  But if you’re an avid hunter and can stand the sight of blood, just ask me to send you the link and I’ll pass it along to you!

One week until seminary starts back up.  I’m gonna try to soak it up.

If you’re looking for some new music to listen to, you should definitely pick up these new releases: Fiction Family (Self Titled), Andrew Bird (Noble Beast), or Bon Iver’s EP (Blood Bank).
